I got up early on Monday morning last week and got rewarded with some nice light to shoot near Lynn Canyon in North Vancouver.  Shot with my 35mm 1.4 and a 45mm TS-E.  Two of my all-time favourite lenses.

I was out photographing the Pride Parade for the Globe & Mail yesterday. Some shots:

Headed up to Rockwater Secret Cove Resort for a wedding on Saturday, and met up with my buddies who were at Disaster Daze in Sechelt, after which we went for a ride up to Ruby Lake, then back to Langdale for the ferry home. Awesome weekend.

Took a trip to the Aquarium yesterday to photograph the whales and dolphins for the front of the Globe’s BC section.  I am kind of stuck on the issue, I don’t think those tanks are any place for these amazing animals but I guess a lot of them have been born in captivity and couldn’t survive in the wild.  Still, it’s kind of heartbreaking to see them in there. Coincidentally, I was just reading this article: http://outside.away.com/outside/culture/201007/killer-whale-behavior-trainer-death-seaworld.html in Outside magazine (I usually read it every month.)  It’s worth a read, and outlines a lot of what has happened with killer whales in aquariums.  Sad stuff.

July 19, 2010 -  Vancouver, BC – Visitors watch as a Pacific white-sided dolphin swims at the Vancouver Aquarium on Monday.  Vancouver’s park commissioners voted Monday night to reject a motion urging a non-binding plebiscite concerning the whale and dolphin exhibits at the city’s aquarium for next year’s civic election.

Chef Taryn whipped up these fantastic dishes the other day for me to photograph, and I got to have a taste of them all. She does such a fantastic job and I can’t recommend them enough if you are looking for someone to cater your event or wedding.

Big storm over the Georgian Bay – Wasaga Beach, ON.

After an unsuccessful attempt at bump-starting Raddie’s bike, the three of us rolled out mid-day on Saturday on our way to Whistler. The long way. Vancouver to Hope, to Lytton, to Ashcroft, Cache Creek, Pemberton, Whistler, and back to Vancouver. Saw a ton of other bikes on the road, took in some drag racing outside of Ashcroft, rolled by a black bear mid-way through the Duffy Lake road, crashed in Whistler for the night. Woke up Sunday, had a hearty breaky in Whistler, and headed down the sea-to-sky and hiked the Chief in Squamish. Parkoured our way down the trail at the Chief, and headed over to meet up with the girls on Bowyer Island for an ocean swim, sunset hike, a few beers and some turkey tacos. Home first thing Monday. That is what I call maximizing your weekend.

I got to run alongside Teri and her running group fully kitted out in my motorcycle jacket and rain pants yesterday. A hell of a workout to start the day.




Teri Christopher, front centre, and the women she run with are hooked: ‘We actually call ourselves a coffee group with a running disorder.’ Race directors say it won’t be long before women make up the majority in marathons across Canada.

As far as assignments go, this one was rad. Jennifer had Band of Horses playing on the stereo and I got to take home some brownies and sugar-free banana fig date muffins. Doesn’t get much better than that!
