My good friends Kyle and Taryn of Savoury Chef Foods do some amazing work. Every time I get the chance to photograph one of the events or weddings they cater, I am not alone in being blown away by how good their food is. I was lucky enough with the Rick Hansen Foundation and the Royal Canadian Mint recently. The Mint used one of my images of Rick on the front of their packaging for a new commemorative coin celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Rick’s Man in Motion World Tour.
I photographed the Brewmaster’s Dinner this Wednesday at the Granville Island Brewery’s taproom. The dinner, a gourmet four-course meal made by Savoury Chef‘s Taryn Wa, was paired with GIB’s local flavours, brewed by GIB brewmaster Vern Lambourne. I got to have a taste and have to say the dinner was amazing! I did a shoot with Granville Island Brewing Brewmaster, Vern Lambourne and Savoury Chef Foods Owner, Chef Taryn Wa last week to promote their upcoming event at the GIB taproom this Wednesday for Vancouver Craft Beer Week. I got to sample everything while at the shoot, and man, this dinner is going to be goooooood….

Chef Taryn whipped up these fantastic dishes the other day for me to photograph, and I got to have a taste of them all. She does such a fantastic job and I can’t recommend them enough if you are looking for someone to cater your event or wedding.
I went out to Abbotsford on Saturday to shoot promo stills for an upcoming TV Production where amateurs boxed each other inside their ring to settle a grudge. I haven’t shot boxing since I did the BC Golden Gloves Championship a couple of years ago, and I still think it is one of the most difficult sports to photograph. The best shots come from the great fights, which can be few and far between, and when they do come, you usually have to try to shoot photos while quick punches are being throw. Not to mention the light is not usually the greatest for still photography, and it’s a challenge. But having said that, there is just an inherent beauty and simplicity to boxing that makes it something great to photograph. Having watched the documentary “Facing Ali” a few days previous (I highly recommend it) I was set to go. It turned out to be a long day, but as far as shoots go, was a pretty cool day.
