Cool photos of Russian Bikers.

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

A very cool photo essay on Russian bikers I stumbled upon.  One of those sets of photos I don’t think you could ever picture in colour.

One of my goals this year is definately to document some motorcycle trips.

Directed by Woody Allen and starring Larry David?  Definitely worth my time.

Steven Soderburg shoots an arthouse film starring a porn star in between directing epic 4.5 hour long movie “Che” and the Oceans 11-13 series? Looks interesting….

One more time.

A rainy Sunday off to edit photos and drink coffee.  I spent most of the day finding a bunch of new websites and blogs for visual inspiration, and I came across some random quotes that really exemplified some of my thoughts from the past while, especially the first.  I had the Diane Arbus quote the other day, so I thought I would follow up with some others.

We all make our own set of rules in life.

If you should be so lucky.

Mistakes: the only way to learn.

With the advent of the Iphone, you can ignore everybody anywhere now. Awesome!

Speak. Create. Grow.

Some tips:

1. Shoot personal work. Call in some favors, get creative with no budget, and shoot something for yourself.

2. Set free that idea you’ve been holding onto. Write a blog post about it. Ask your friends what they think. Tell the world.

3. Learn about video. Don’t have a camera? Buy drip coffee for a month instead of lattes, and buy a Flip Mino video camera with the money you save. Experiment.

4. Connect with your peers. Start a blog, dig into your Facebook. Or, hell, gather your photo friends for beers and a slide show.

Point Roberts.

Monday, May 11th, 2009

I headed down to Point Roberts today for a motorcycle ride, trying to head to the only area in Vancouver with a little bit of sun mid-day Monday.  I have been without my gear for almost a month now since I was robbed in Nicaragua and it has been really painful to go without some creative outlet.  I have been tinkering with a few things but cannot wait till the good people at my insurance company sort it all out so I can get back into things.  I brought my parents little Canon point-n-shoot out today to take a few fun shots:

Wreck Beach.

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Back in Vancouver, the weather is good, and I am loving every minute of it. A few photos from our yoga session at Wreck Beach this past Friday. Great to be home with my friends in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  (My ugly feet on top, my extremely dirty hands on the bottom.)

Photos by Tristan Casey. & more are up on his blog.

Honarable Mention at NPAC NPOY Gala in Toronto

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

I just got back from a 3 month journey to Central America and stopped by in Toronto on my way back for the News Photographers Association of Canada’s Annual National POY Gala, where I picked up an Honorable Mention for this photo I took in Rwanda last year. It’s great to be back home in Canada and I will be posting photos as soon as the insurance company cuts me a check to pick up my new gear.
